4.7kms down on the jungle trek, punished myself with a non stop effort to the top of 380+ very steep steps, feeling pretty good… look down to check my progress and there is the dreaded warning on my Garmin… battery low.
No choice but to run home.
Message to legs… I know you have climbed up and down two very steep ravines, negotiated mud, scaled rice paddy walls and waded through rivers but I need a bit more. The thought of being defeated by a battery is more than I can take.
I take off, leaving our Bootcamp Retreat group in the capable hands of our Sharing Bali staff. Running like a crazy woman, walking stick flying, only slowing down for dogs who may view my flight as threatening, I have no shortage of bemused looks from everyone in our quiet Bali village. I hurriedly wave, say hello, one eye on the dreaded battery icon.
My Garmin is a very generous gift from my brother, Andy, a tech savvy guy who tracks every one of his cycle trips around the world with dedication. (He’s currently in the French Alps recording some impressive climbs with his Cycle Rides group tour). He struggles to understand how I find it so difficult to get the Garmin charged, on the right program and actually download the info to share.
My interest in reading the Garmin how-to booklet is at an all time high. Until the Garmin and I are on better terms, I will be grateful for the hidden fitness benefits….. “battery low” fuelled sprints.
The good news… I MADE IT… and am proud to share with you my first uninterrupted Garmin trek upload.
Aside from the Garmin dramas it was a fabulous trek with our Kari On Training Bali Bootcamp crew making every moment enjoyable. There were a few bumps and slides in the mud, plenty of stops to take awesome photos and no shortage of sweat in the tropical heat. Loved every moment. Best moments in pics below:
You’re welcome to bring your Garmin, FitBit or other tech device to record every step on our treks at Sharing Bali. I may ask for your assistance to setting my Garmin.
